Dimple grew up watching her mother dance giddha. Her mother, Jagir, was her college giddha team captain and an avid dancer throughout her life. Inspired by her mother, Dimple participated in school and college folk dance teams and youth festivals. With these teams Dimple won awards. After college in the early nineties, Dimple moved to the USA and started participating in Teeyan events here in the Bay Area. Along with like minded, giddha loving ladies, Dimple created a giddha team called Punjabi Dhadkan. A few years after this team dissolved, Dimple got together with one of the original dancers of the team, Pinku Ratti, and they started Punjabi Dhadkan Academy. Other than running this academy, Dimple also loves to act. She has acted in numerous Punjabi theater plays in California and in Canada. She has also acted in movies and music videos. Dimple’s love for her folk culture is the motivation behind establishing this Academy so that she can help the next generation of American Punjabis stay connected to their Punjabi roots, culture, and heritage.
